Chelsea defeated Luton Town 3-0 at home on Friday night, thanks to two goals from Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson’s first strike for the Londoners.
In the 17th minute, Sterling took the ball from wingback Malo Gusto, cut in from the right, and threaded his way past Luton’s defense before firing low into the far corner for one of his best goals for Chelsea.
In the 68th minute, Gusto raced onto a pass from British record transfer signing Moises Caicedo, who looked poised in his debut start for the Blues, and the Frenchman crossed for Sterling to finish easily.
Seven minutes later, Sterling provided the assist when he crossed for Jackson, who scored his first goal for the Londoners since joining from Villarreal in June.
Raheem Sterling has been involved in 18 goals in 16 Premier League games against newly promoted opponents since the start of 2020–21 (13 goals, five assists).
Chelsea will be up against A. Wimbledon on Wednesday in the Carabao before locking horns at home against Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League.
