Kenyan runner Bernard Sang won the 2024 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon in 02:16:49.
Sang, 32, defeated approximately 80 other competitors in the 9th edition of the race on Saturday, winning the 42-kilometre race and claiming the $50,000 prize money.
The East Africans dominated the marathon, with two additional Kenyans, Simon Cheprot and Edwin Kiptoo, finishing second and third, earning $40,000 and $30,000, respectively.
The Kenyans have won the marathon in 2016, 2017, 2020, and 2021.
Furthermore, Kebene Chala, a 25-year-old Ethiopian, was the first woman to cross the finish line.
Shehu Muazu was the first Nigerian to cross the finish line and will take home a N1 million cash reward.
The 42-kilometre race, which was slated to take place between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m., began at the National Stadium in Surulere and ended at Eko Atlantic City on Victoria Island.
On Friday, the Lagos State Government, through the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, issued a traffic advisory ahead of the annual Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
