Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has indicated that his team’s ambition of winning five consecutive Premier League titles in a row could be crushed if they lose to table-toppers Liverpool next Sunday.
Guardiola told ESPN on Saturday that an 11-point deficit if Manchester City loses to Arne Slot’s squad would be too much to overcome even at this stage of the season, following their fifth defeat in all competitions and third straight league game with a 4-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.
If Liverpool defeats Southampton on Sunday, they will go eight points clear.
When told that an 11-point gap could be too much to overcome, he replied, “Yeah, it’s true.
“We’re not thinking about winning or losing [the title]. We are not in the situation to think about what is going to happen at the end of the season.
“If in the end we don’t win, it’s because we don’t deserve it. We won it in the past because we deserved it.”
