John Enoh, the Minister of Sports Development, has announced plans to conduct a thorough investigation into Nigeria’s performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
He said this during a live broadcast of Channels TV on Thursday.
Enoh stated that he would soon receive a report on the situation, expressing regret that Team Nigeria had returned from the Olympics without a medal.
He blamed the loss on a lack of desire, despite the fact that all Nigerian athletes who competed in the games were well compensated.
He mentioned that over N8 billion was spent on the Paris Olympics, with some athletes receiving their payments in advance.
Enoh stated, “The Ministry of Sports Development under my leadership will thoroughly investigate every issue that contributed to our performance. We will not ignore it; we will address it directly.”
Furthermore, Enoh advocated for the reform of sporting federations.
He added that the federations chose athletes they thought were suitable for the tournaments but frequently rejected outside input.
He added, “The federations are very protective of their decisions, and any attempt by a minister to intervene is often viewed as interference.
“My responsibility is to oversee our performance in international competitions. Under my leadership, I have sought to avoid many of the issues that have plagued our sporting engagements internationally over the past several years.”
