President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, has arrived at the palace of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, in Oyo State, for his coronation as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland.
Seyi, accompanied by his wife, Layal, arrived at the palace of the Alaafin on Sunday.
Chronicle NG reports that Seyi will be installed as the “Okanlomo of Yorubaland,” a title that translates to “the beloved child” or “the one dear to the hearts of all Yoruba people.”
The title is said to symbolize a custodian of Yoruba values, unity, and cultural heritage.
Abdul’Aziz Yari, Senator for Zamfara West and former Governor of Zamfara State, has also reportedly arrived in Oyo, escorted by a team of northern senators and political figures.
The Alaafin will also appoint Yari as the “Obaloyin of Yorubaland” at the same time.
According to a recent statement by the Alaafin’s Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, the title ‘Obaloyin of Yorubaland’ denotes love, compassion, justice, and a connection between the physical and spiritual realms.
Both titles are claimed to carry responsibilities such as promoting Yoruba culture, advising the Alaafin, creating unity, and improving education and social welfare.
Videos circulating on social media show that the event has been put up, with several significant personalities in attendance, including former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, politicians, and a diverse assembly of traditional rulers and chiefs.
