The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, vowed to sue President Bola Tinubu in court on Wednesday.

SERAP has threatened to sue Tinubu for the illegal 114 percent raise in his and Vice President Kashim Shettima’s salaries.

The body called state governors’ and legislators’ pay raises “outrageous.”

Tweeting, SERAP wrote: “BREAKING: We’re suing the Tinubu administration over its outrageous and illegal 114 per cent increase in the salaries of the President, vice president, state governors and lawmakers, while over 133 million Nigerians live in extreme poverty.”

Chronicle NG reported yesterday that the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) approved a 114% rise in the salary of elected politicians, including the President, Vice President, governors, legislators, and holders of judicial and public office.

RMAFC is tasked with determining suitable payment for political elected officials such as the president, vice president, governors, deputy governors, ministers, commissioners, special advisers, lawmakers, and those who hold offices mentioned in sections 84 and 124 of this constitution.

The commission encouraged the Houses of Assembly of the 36 states to expedite measures to alter applicable laws to allow for upward review of remuneration packages for political, judicial, and public employees.

The RMAFC Chairman, Muhammadu Shehu, made the call on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi, represented by a federal commissioner, Rakiya Tanko-Ayuba, during the presentation of reports on the revised salary package to Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris.
