Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has condemned that arrest of protesters at the The Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Guzape Hills, Asokoro Extension, Guzape, Abuja.

Protesters who are calling on Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo to step down after he was accused of rape by Busola Dakolo, wife of musician Timi Dakolo stormed his church on Sunday morning.

Shortly before the protest billed for 8:30 a.m. officially began unidentified security agents arrested two men who were subsequently driven away in a black Mercedes Benz C200 saloon.

Reacting to the arrest, SERAP said the use of excessive force by security agents should be condemned by everyone.

SERAP has strongly condemned the repression & arbitrary arrests by Nigerian law enforcement & security agents of anti-rape activists who have been peacefully protesting today outside the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly

“While law enforcement and security agents have a responsibility to provide public security, they need to abide by human rights standards on the use of force.”

“The use of excessive force against peaceful protesters demanding justice for alleged rape against a popular pastor urgently demands a fully independent investigation.”
