Senator Abdul Ningi’s suspension, which had been in place since March 12, 2024, has been revoked.

The decision came after Deputy Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro presented a motion on Tuesday to apologise on Ningi’s behalf and accept full responsibility for his acts.

Ningi was suspended for three months following a three-hour debate over his interview, in which he claimed that the budget passed by the National Assembly for the fiscal year 2024 is N25 trillion, while the one executed by the Presidency is N28.7 trillion.

Following his suspension from the red chambers of the National Assembly by the leadership of the 10th Senate under Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Ningi, a lawmaker representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, resigned his position as chairman of the Northern Senators’ Forum.

His resignation came barely an hour after he was suspended for three months for alleging that the 2024 budget had been padded with items worth over N3 trillion.

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who also doubles as a member of the Appropriations Committee, first moved the motion for Ningi’s suspension for 12 months over allegations of criminal misinformation and breach of peace in the National Assembly and the country by extension.

However, another lawmaker, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, moved for the amendment of the motion by Ibrahim.

Ekpenyong, who is from Cross River South Senatorial District, prayed for the reduction of the suspension.
