Gbadebo attacks Sanwo-Olu, says Lagosians ‘deserve better’

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has declared that it will use third-party agents to collect unpaid taxes from defaulting taxpayers, including banks, employers, debtors, tenants, and business partners.

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 Lagos state governorship election, has taken a swipe at the Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led Lagos state government over alleged “gross incompetence.”

Gbadebo, in a statement on his verified X handle on Friday, berated Sanwo-Olu over the alleged prevalence of darkness on major roads in Lagos state.

The Labour Party chieftain mentioned that despite “all the money borrowed” by Sanwo-Olu’s administration and “all the IGR generated,” it is “a shame” that Lagos State “cannot power streetlights.”

Alleging that “APC is not just incompetent but also weaponizes poor governance and propaganda in ways that keep the people trapped,” Gbadebo called on Lagosians to realize they “deserve much better.”

His statement reads, “While listening to the morning show on Nigeria Info, an excited caller, expressing deep gratitude, said to the host, “Yesterday night, I saw street lights working between Mile 2 and Apapa, and I could not believe I would ever see such in my life. Please help me thank the government.

“While I understand the caller’s excitement, it is gross incompetence that the most important roads in Lagos are covered in darkness without visibility for motorists at night.

“It is a shame that the most important economy in the region cannot power streetlights in 2024.

“But I’ve come to realize that the APC is not just incompetent but also weaponizes poor governance and propaganda in ways that keep the people trapped.

“While it is fair and understandable for Lagosians to acknowledge pockets of progress, many have to understand that they deserve much better and that their lives would be far better if public resources were utilized transparently and judiciously.

“For all the money borrowed and for all the IGR generated, Lagos should be fully lit.”
