Professor Ngozi Odu, the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, has switched from the People’s Democratic Party to the All Progressive Congress.
More than a month after Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the majority of Rivers State’s state and federal lawmakers defected to the APC, Odu has followed suit.
She finished her registration procedures on Sunday at Akabuka, Ward 8, Unit 11 in the state’s Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, and then went on a tour of the LGA’s six zones to inform the public about the ongoing APC e-registration drive.
This was said in a statement issued on Monday in Port Harcourt by the Head of Press Unit, Office of the Deputy Governor, Owupele Benebo, and made available to journalists.
Addressing stakeholders shortly after her registration, Odu noted that the APC’s e-registration process was still ongoing following Fubara’s announcement of his decision to join the party a few weeks earlier.
She also advised locals to show their support for President Bola Tinubu and the governor by massively registering with the APC.
“The move is to further strengthen the support base of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Siminalayi Fubara,” she said, noting that six zonal meetings had already been held to facilitate the plan.
“Today, I came to sensitise the people, and everywhere we went, there were large crowds who came out to receive us. They said wherever I go, they will go with me; and wherever Governor Fubara and President Tinubu go, they will go.
“You can see the joy and happiness. I have touched all the six zones — Egi, Omoku, Osomini, Igburu, Egbema and Ndoni,” Odu added.
Odu praised the development as a boost to the APC’s strength in the LGA, as well as evidence of growing grassroots support for President Tinubu and Governor Fubara’s leadership.
According to the statement, a notable highlight of the tour was the defection of hundreds of Labour Party members in Ndoni to the APC, all of whom expressed satisfaction in joining the party.
