Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas (rtd.), the newly sworn-in Sole Administrator of Rivers State, has vowed to restore law and order in the state.
Speaking to State House correspondents after his swearing-in by President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday, Ibas emphasized the importance of stability for governance.
“We know the circumstances that led to why we are here, and Mr. President made it clear in his broadcast. If the main issue is that of maintaining law and order in the state, I think for any meaningful activities to take place in Rivers State, that is the utmost task that I have,” he stated.
He assured that he would collaborate with key stakeholders to achieve stability.
“We will work together with other stakeholders to ensure that we bring peace, order, security, and stability to the people and government of Rivers State and Nigeria at large,” he added.
President Tinubu had declared a state of emergency in Rivers State during a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday. He also suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and the entire State House of Assembly for six months, citing Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution.
The President justified his decision by pointing to the escalating political crisis in the oil-rich state, stating that inaction was not an option. Ibas was immediately appointed as the sole administrator to oversee the state’s affairs.
