Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has accused ex-Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, of allegedly being responsible for mass killings during his tenure in office.

Omokri’s accusations came in response to El-Rufai’s recent criticism of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former governor had declared that he no longer recognizes the ruling party, citing a lack of internal democracy and a deviation from its founding principles.

Reacting via his official X handle, Omokri launched a scathing attack on El-Rufai, saying:

“You are a bloodthirsty tyrant, and because you no longer see blood flowing on the streets of Kaduna, you are unable to recognise Nigeria!

“The reason you, Nasir el-Rufai, the Butcher of Kaduna, no longer recognise Nigeria is because, while you were Governor of Kaduna, there were industrial-scale mass killings of Christians in Southern Kaduna after you admitted paying herdsmen, and mass murders of Shiites in Northern Kaduna after your government admitted invading their compound in Zaria and killing almost a thousand Shia men, women, children and infants.

“All of that ended as soon as you left office.”

Omokri’s remarks have sparked reactions across social and political circles, with many Nigerians weighing in on the issue.

The Mayor of Ali Kataku, in a tweet, condemned El-Rufai’s alleged role in Kaduna’s security crisis, stating, “Many innocent Nigerians were killed when Nasir was governor, and it is the same man who is looking for a way to plunge Nigeria into more crisis solely for his personal interest”

Dr. Favour Desimhi also echoed similar concerns, arguing that the security situation in Kaduna improved after El-Rufai left office, “It is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf that the security situation in Kaduna ended immediately he left office and we don’t want a larger scale of what we saw in Kaduna during his reign.”

Another user, Akintayo, referenced El-Rufai’s past ambitions and accused him of targeting Christians in Kaduna, “He wanted to be president, yet he slaughtered Christians in Kaduna and still admitted. May God’s judgment and His kingdom come so soon.”

Veefocus1 further alleged that El-Rufai played a role in the displacement of indigenous people in Southern Kaduna “El-Rufai was a pain to the people of Southern Kaduna. He gazetted land from Southern Kaduna to Fulanis and chased the indigenous people out. Sadly, the media hide it.”

The controversy surrounding El-Rufai’s tenure continues to generate heated debates, with many awaiting his response.
