Barely a month before Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, leaves office, Nigerians, on Thursday, May 4, 2023, have begun a throwback challenge on the micro-blogging site, Twitter, by recalling numerous achievements.
Chronicle NG reports that their celebration of Prof. Osinbajo’s achievements came on the backdrop of the viral statement made on Arise TV by an erudite lawyer, O. C. J. Okocha, where he applauded the sterling achievements of VP Osinbajo as the Attorney General of Lagos between 1999 and 2007.
Okocha, the Founder and Managing Solicitor of the Law Firm of Okocha & Okocha and a former Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice of Rivers State, on Wednesday, lauded the VP’s leadership of the Lagos judiciary, reforming its judicial system when he served under former Governor Bola Tinubu from 1999 to 2007.
Okocha, The Past President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), who is a Life Member of the Honourable Body of Benchers (the highest body of excellence in the Legal Profession in Nigeria, spoke at a state banquet in honour of the Presidential-elect, Bola Tinubu, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
He told Tinubu that, “Professor Yemi Osinbajo revolutionized the judiciary in Lagos State when “you were governor and that is the template that most of us have copied in mending our rules of court and now have what we call front loading, Yemi did that and revolutionized the judiciary in Lagos state, we have tried to copy.”
The 30-second video of Ogoja has since gone viral on social media with many Twitter users now using the video in several posts on their walls.
Reacting to the development, many Nigerians have since taken to Twitter to celebrate the VP, with many recollecting his achievements when he was Acting President in 2017, to his numerous feats as Nigeria’s Vice President for being a ground-breaker of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration’s pro-people policies aimed at making life easier for people.
In the same vein, many also recalled Prof Osinbajo’s input during the End SARS controversy and his influence in the final dissolution of the notorious SARS unit while also commending his resolve to creating the idea of judicial panels of enquiry in all states of the federation to investigate all cases of police brutality across the nation.
They said Prof. Osinbajo’s numerous achievements as Vice President, have in many ways set the template for good governance in Nigeria, while some recalled that the Vice President had led two different committees that helped the country exit recession on different occasions.
