The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has commenced its annual August convention on Monday.

The 72nd edition of the conference, themed “Heaven,” will take place from Monday, August 5, to Sunday, August 11, 2024, at The Redemption City in Mowe, Ogun State (Lagos-Ibadan Way).

Thousands of believers are scheduled to attend the gathering in Redemption City.

Highlights will include new pastor ordinations, teachings, and the Friday Holy Ghost Night.

Worshippers have previously booked all of the guest accommodations and hostels in Redemption City and surrounding areas.

    • Nigerians criticise RCCG over 72nd annual conference amid nationwide protest

A check by our journalist on Sunday confirmed that participants were already arriving, as motor traffic into the camp is expected to increase beginning Monday and intensifying on Friday for the much-anticipated Holy Ghost night.

Speaking on the convention, the General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, said during the July 5, 2024 Holy Ghost Service themed “Refuel Your Fire,”  the 72nd edition will be “a convention like you have never seen it before.”.

“Whenever they ask you what is the vision of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, we have always said number one, we want to make it to heaven, and number two, we want to take as many people as possible with us,” he said of the theme.

He urged the congregation to do their “very best to inform friends, relatives, and co-workers about the convention.”

“It is going to be very wonderful; we would be discussing themes like as pure as light,” Adeboye had said.

The RCCG is believed to have approximately nine million members worldwide, with an estimated five million in Nigeria.

Since 2018, when the church revealed a 12 million-capacity auditorium at The Redemption City in Mowe, Ogun State, the number of participants at the annual conference has increased.

At the convention, guests are normally provided with complimentary meals at specific locations across the camp.

The church, on its social handle, said, “RCCG 72nd Annual Convention is free, not sold out, and open to everyone! Do you want to experience Heaven on Earth? Join us from August 5 to 11, 2024, at The Redemption City, Mowe Ogun State.”

Nigerians had berated the church for organising its 72nd annual conference amid the ongoing protest.

In various comments on X on Sunday, Nigerians criticised the general overseer of the church over his silence on the ongoing hunger protest despite being vociferous during the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan.
