Following the recent crackdown on naira abuse, a social media commentator said on Wednesday that the only punishment for those found guilty should be community service.

The crackdown has sent a strong message to citizens who abuse the Nigerian currency.

Chronicle NG reported that Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos, on Friday, sentenced controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, to six months in jail without the option of a fine for naira abuse.

Today, businessman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cuban Chief Priest, was arraigned before Justice Kehinde Ogundare on three counts bordering on abuse of naira for allegedly spraying and tampering with the nation’s currency at a social event contrary to the provisions of the Central Bank Act of 2007.

Ewgi noted in his X post, “Actually, there is no reason why the punishment for Naira mutilation should be anything more than community service or a fine, especially for first-time offenders.”

He added, “Still on Naira mutilation.” If EFCC stumbles on Yhemolee’s Snapchat, they might skip the whole arraignment in court part and just throw that one in jail straight’.

“Because Bobrisky has set a bad precedent, these guys might as well throw the Cuban Chief Priest in jail too,” Ewgi observed.
