Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) rallied from behind to stun Barcelona 2-1 in their UEFA Champions League (UCL) league phase match on Wednesday at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium.
The UCL champions were patient in a match in which they exposed Barcelona’s famous high defensive line to win a highly competitive game.
PSG was missing the majority of its first-team players, including Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele, while Barcelona welcomed back Lamine Yamal to the starting lineup.
Ferran Torres gave the home side the lead in the 19th minute, sneaking in to finish Marcus Rashford’s low cross.
The visiting European champions were undeterred and eventually waltzed through Barcelona’s high line through Nuno Mendes, who threaded the ball for Senny Mayulu to equalize with a well-placed shot at 38 minutes.
Both teams had chances to take all three points in the second half, but it was PSG who took advantage in the 90th minute.
Goncalo Ramos beat the offside trap to latch on to Achraf Hakimi’s cross and score the winner.
PSG has won both league phase matches and is on six points, while Barcelona lost and is still on six.
