President Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Engagement, Fredrick Nwabufo, has knocked Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, for his comments on the President’s visit to Saint Lucia.

Tinubu departed Nigeria to Saint Lucia on Saturday, a move which has been heavily criticised by many Nigerians, including Obi.

In a statement, Obi had accused Tinubu of going on a vacation to the Caribbean country at a time when the country is battling a series of crises.

“This is a President going for leisure when he couldn’t visit Minna, Niger state where over two hundred lives were lost and over 700 persons still missing in a flood natural disaster. I wonder which type of incident will happen before a President is attracted to show physical sympathy to the distressed citizens,” his statement read in part.

Reacting to Obi’s comments on Sunday, Nwabufo described Obi as a tragedy connoisseur who has fouled social media with lamentations vacant of substance and fact.

    • Obi condemns Tinubu’s ‘insensitive’ Saint Lucia vacation

He further stated the relevance of the President’s visit. According to him Tinubu traveled to the Caribbean country to deepen Nigeria’s engagement with Caribbean nations and strengthen South-South cooperation.

He described Saint Lucia as an important gateway to the Caribbean, further noting that the citizens of the country are are very excited about the President’s visit as it is a historic and consequential visit.

“Nigeria and citizens of the Caribbean share strong cultural affinity. Nigeria, by the design of nature and history, has a leadership role to play not only in Africa but in every corner of the world where there are Africans.

“President Tinubu is the visionary who sees Nigeria for its immense greatness and who has returned the nation to global reckoning,” he noted.
