The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has disclosed that the nation’s power generation hit 5,713.60 megawatts on Tuesday, the highest in the last four years.

The TCN declared on Tuesday that the power sector had reached a new peak generation for 2025, which was successfully transmitted.

It was reported that the feat was accomplished on Tuesday, above the 5.543 MW recorded on February 14.

“This was recorded on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 21:30 hours, with the new generation peak of 5,713.60 megawatts (MW), surpassing the previous peak generation of 5,543.20 MW achieved on February 14, 2025, by 170.40 MW,” the TCN stated.

It noted that, while this new peak is 88 MW lower than the all-time peak generation of 5,801.60 MW recorded on March 1, 2021, it is still a significant achievement.

It also reported that the maximum daily energy output increased to 125,542.06 megawatt-hours, up from 125,159.48 MWh the previous month.

“Furthermore, a new record for the maximum daily energy ever attained in the history of the electricity industry in Nigeria was also set yesterday, with a total of 125,542.06 megawatt-hours (MWh). This surpasses the previous record of 125,159.48 MWh achieved on February 14, 2025, by 382.58 MWh,” the statement added.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, had promised Nigerians that power generation would rise to 6,000 MW by December 2024.

However, this could not be attained due to vandalism, grid collapses, and poor power infrastructure.
