In an invitation letter dated January 19, 2026, and signed by Matthew Obiuwevbi, a deputy commissioner of police, on behalf of the commissioner of police, the PSFU said it is investigating a matter that requires clarification from the news organisation.
“This Unit is investigating a case in which the need to obtain certain clarifications from you has become imperative,” the letter reads.
“This i s a fact-finding investigation which is pursuant to the investigative powers conferred on the Nigeria Police Force by the
combined provisions of Section 214 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and Section 4(a) of the Police Act, 2020.
“Your presence is therefore to assist in advancing the course of Criminal Justice delivery and fairness. Be advised that you are at liberty to come along with your lawyer, please.”
The deputy police commissioner asked the news platform’s management to appear before the unit on January 26.
Obiuwevbi added that unauthorised disclosure of the letter is against the Official Secret Act and violators may be liable to prosecution.
