Kano State’s Police Command intercepted suspected explosive devices and illicit substances in two separate raids in the state’s urban local government areas.

CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the command’s spokesperson, delivered this statement in Kano on Friday.

Kiyawa stated that on Monday, police officers from the Rijiyar Lemo Police Division conducted a search warrant at a property in Tudun Bojuwa Quarters, Fagge LGA, and seized two large sacks containing suspected incriminating items.

He explained that a team of experts from the command’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) division recognized and identified the suspected materials.

One of the sacks was found to contain six rolls of detonating codes, while the other included 20 packets of dried leaves presumed to be Cannabis Sativa and 220 sachets of suspected Exol tablets, with an investigation ongoing.

Kiyawa stated that in the second operation, a team of police officers from the command’s Anti-Thuggery Unit intercepted a tricycle rider at Sani Mainagge Quarters, Gwale LGA, with three bags containing suspected heavy materials while on an intelligence-led surveillance patrol.

He stated that a team of experts from the command’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) division recognized and identified the suspected materials, which included 3,700 electric detonators.

The commercial tricycle rider led to the arrest of Ibrahim Garba, also known as ‘Manyan Baki,’ a 49-year-old Zamfara resident who admitted to aiding the transit of commodities from Nasarawa State to other locations.

Kiyawa indicated that the command has already begun an extensive investigation into the situation.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, praised the officers who participated in the operations and asked the people to be watchful.

He urged the public to continue reporting any suspicious movements, objects, or activities to the nearest police station or using the command’s emergency lines.

Kiyawa added, “The public is advised not to touch any suspicious item seen, keep distance, and immediately report it to the Police.”
