The Kogi State Police Command asked citizens on Sunday to work with security forces to ensure a peaceful and secure holiday season.
Naziru Kankarofi, the state Commissioner of Police, gave the recommendation in a statement posted in Lokoja by the command’s spokesperson, William Ovye-Aya.
Kankarofi asked locals to assist with security services to guarantee peaceful and secure Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.
He emphasized the necessity of alertness, encouraging residents to report suspicious activity, avoid illegal gatherings, and drive responsibly.
He also asked citizens to report strangers and unusual behavior to authorities, avoid cult-related activities, and refrain from hazardous behavior.
He encouraged motorists to drive safely and follow traffic laws, and he urged locals to engage in neighborhood watch programs and collaborate closely with local officials.
Meanwhile, Kankarofi praised the Kogi people for their resilience and adherence to the law.
“With these simple precautions, we will safeguard our families, friends, markets, churches, and roads.
“Let this Christmas be a season of hope, peace, and security! If you see something, contact the nearest police station immediately.
“Let’s collaborate; information from citizens helps us prevent crimes.
“We are stronger when communities and police unite; together, let’s make Kogi a crime-free Christmas and beyond,” he said.
The Command advised locals to report any concerns to their nearest police station, emphasizing the importance of community-police partnership in crime prevention.
