The Katsina State Police Command rescued six victims from kidnappings on the Jibia-Kauran Namoda and Funua-Gusau roads, according to a statement released on Saturday by spokesperson Abubakar Aliyu.

The victims were rescued through collaboration between police and military personnel.

The statement read, “Upon receipt of the report, police operatives, in collaboration with the military, immediately moved to the scene and engaged the suspects in a gun duel.

“Four kidnapped victims were successfully rescued and rushed to the hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, one victim succumbed to gunshot injuries sustained during the attack.

“Similarly, at about 0700hrs, Faskari Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call regarding an attempted kidnapping on the Funua-Gusau Road at Unguwar Boka village, Faskari LGA, Katsina State.”

According to the statement, the operatives attached to the Faskari LG engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle, in which “regrettably, the assailants fatally shot one of the victims during the attack. However, two kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unhurt. Efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators as the investigation proceeds.”

In early September, the Imo State Police Command nabbed five kidnapping suspects terrorising the state’s Obinze, Avu, and Ihiagwa communities.

In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Muyiwa Adejobi named the suspects as Umaru Usman, Tukur Yau, Musbau Sabo, Abdul Ibrahim, and Jubrin.
