The Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan, Lagos, has arrested a 37-year-old fake  medical doctor and practitioner suspected of forging certifications.

Olatoye Durosinmi, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the zone, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday as he paraded the suspect before reporters in Lagos.

Durosinmi stated that operatives from the Zonal Anti-Piracy Unit apprehended the suspect, who claimed to be the Managing Director of Skylink Medical Centre in Ikorodu.

“Based on the intelligence gathered by the command through members of the Elepe community concerning the activities of the suspect, a team of detectives, led by SP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi, swung into action,” he said.

“The officers arrested the suspect, conducted a search, and recovered two suspected forged certificates from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

“Also recovered were immovable hospital equipment,” he said, adding that the hospital complex had been sealed, pending the outcome of an investigation.

According to Durosinmi, the suspect admitted to the electronic creation of the credentials despite the fact that he did not have a university degree or an MDCN certificate.

According to him, the guy just holds a West African school certificate.

The police chief stated that part of the suspect’s confession was that he had a total of six members, two of whom were qualified nurses and the other four were amateurs.

“According to him, he worked as a nursing assistant at Fabo Medical Centre in the Majidun area of Lagos before establishing his own hospital,” he said.

The AIG further noted that the suspect claimed to have successfully performed three operations: two Caesarean sections and one appendicitis, during his three years of illegal medical practice.

He stated that the inquiry thus far has indicated that the suspect was operating the facility without being a qualified medical practitioner.

Durosinmi urged the public not to be afraid to contact the police if they suspected any illegal activity.

He stated that the police was collaborating with the ministries of health in Lagos and Ogun states to clear the area of such criminal groups.

The suspected phoney medical doctor also informed reporters on the sidelines of the parade that he used to perform general treatments and surgery.

He claimed that he learned the work from someone for two and a half years before opening his facility.

“I am just a secondary school certificate holder, but I forged the MBBS certificate,” the suspect said.
