The Kano State Police Command has opened an inquiry into the deaths of two ladies in Tudun Yola Quarters, Gwale Local Government Area, whose homes were also set on fire on Wednesday.
On Saturday, the Kano State Police Command confirmed the killings to our correspondent via its Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, and stated that investigations are ongoing.
“Investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the incident,” Haruna said.
A family source confirmed that the victims, Hauwa’u Yakubu and Zahra’u Aliyu, were both the wives of Alhaji Ashiru Shu’aibu Usaini.
According to preliminary accounts, one of the ladies was stabbed before the house caught fire, while the second was found dead in the toilet.
Anas Shu’aibu, the victims’ stepson, stated that the event occurred about lunchtime, while the husband and children were away.
He stated, “We found the burnt body of one of them, while the other was locked in the bathroom. When we forced the door open, she was already dead.”
The victim’s husband has urged authorities to capture those responsible.
The recent deaths come after several high-profile cases in Kano, including the arrest of the primary suspect in the April murder of 22-year-old Rumaisa Haruna in Farawa Quarters, which the command announced in May 2025.
