The Oyo State Police Command says two suspected bandits were killed during a gun battle with operatives in Elebe village, Aleniboro area, via Irawo Mine.

In a statement on Sunday, Ayanlade Olayinka, the police spokesperson in the state, said the suspects were among about 10 armed men who allegedly planned to attack the community under the cover of darkness.

Olayinka added that the police received intelligence from a resident that the assailants had concealed themselves in a farm settlement within the village.

He said the suspects were armed with two AK-47 rifles, single-barrel guns, and locally made pistols.

According to him, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the Tede Division informed the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, who then ordered the deployment of additional personnel to the area.

Olayinka noted that the police, in collaboration with members of Agbekoya and local hunters, mobilised to the hideout.

“On sighting the operatives, the hoodlums opened fire, resulting in a gun duel,” the statement read.

“In the course of the exchange, two of the bandits were neutralised, while others escaped with suspected bullet wounds.”

He listed items recovered from the scene to include a locally made pistol, cartridges, two expended 7.62mm AK-47 shells, substances suspected to be Indian hemp, two Tecno phones, and a bottle believed to contain a mixed drink.

The police spokesperson said the area has been secured, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies.
