The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, arrived in Kebbi State on Tuesday following the kidnapping of schoolgirls from the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga.

During the visit, the police chief is set to meet with the State Governor, Nasir Idris, and subsequently address personnel of the Nigeria Police Force in the state, Channels Television reports.

Egbetokun’s visit comes after a security briefing with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Sunday, where the rising number of abductions in Kebbi, Niger, and Kwara states was discussed.

Also present at the meeting were the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyode; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Kelvin Aneke; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas; Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General E.A.P. Undiendeye; Chief of Army Staff, Major General Waidi Shaibu; and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Tosin Ajayi.

Chronicle NG had reported that bandits had stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in the early hours of November 17, killing the vice principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, before whisking away several students.

It was reported that the gunmen were unfettered during the raid and shot Makuku while attempting to protect the students.

As the country mourned the Kebbi tragedy, armed men abducted students from St. Mary’s Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Niger State, on Friday.

It was discovered that the gunmen arrived in considerable numbers, riding around 60 motorcycles and supported by a vehicle. The school’s gatekeeper was shot and seriously injured.

According to the Christian Association of Nigeria, the gunmen took 315 kids from the Catholic-owned school, 50 of whom escaped later.

Most Rev. Bulus Yohanna, CAN Chairman in Niger State and Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, revealed that the runaway students were able to regain their freedom on Friday and Saturday.
