AIG Usaini Gumel, the Kano State Police Commissioner, has explained why the police ignored Governor Yusuf’s directive to deport the deposed Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero.

Recall that Governor Yusuf, through the State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi, asked the CP on Thursday night to remove the deposed Emir from the Nassarawa tiny palace where he is currently living.

In a phone interview with newsmen on Friday, the police commissioner stated that executing the governor’s eviction order would be “jumping the gun.”

According to him, the same administration that issued the order had filed a petition in the State High Court against the eviction order, which will be heard on Monday, June 24, 2024.

“The police will not evict the deposed Emir because the same government has filed a case at the State High Court on the eviction order, which would come up on Monday, June 24, 2024.

“It is like jumping the gun because the same government has filed a case on the eviction order, which is coming up on June 24, 2024. So, if we carry out the order, it is like we are preempting the court because we don’t know what will happen at the court,” he added.

Meanwhile, security has been increased around the Nassarawa small palace, where the deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero is currently living.

Our correspondent, who visited the palace at 11:30 a.m., reports that more security personnel have been deployed in addition to those already on the ground.

Security guards had closed all four major approaches leading to the small palace.

The deposed Emir was also present in the palace, accompanied by palace guards and other supporters.

One of his followers, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that the deposed Emir received “traditional greetings” from certain traditional rulers loyal to him in the small palace on Friday.

“Let me tell you, Emir Aminu Ado Bayero is still in the mini palace, and as I am talking to you now, he is receiving the “traditional greetings” from those loyal to him,” the source said.

He stated that, contrary to widespread belief, no bulldozers had been stationed at the palace in preparation for its demolition.

“I heard that there is rumour going around in some quarters that a bulldozer has been stationed at the Nassarawa mini palace ahead of the demolition. This is social media propaganda,” the source added.
