The Lagos State Police Command has disputed that its officers shot at citizens protesting the demolition of their homes, saying that no shots were fired during Wednesday's demonstration.

Police operatives on Monday dispersed protestors in the Utako district of Abuja demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the arrested leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

The protesters, who had previously been forced to run as police shot tear gas canisters at them in the Maitama district, regrouped near Utako to resume their demonstration.

However, armed operators went in and dispersed them.

The marchers, who included civil rights activists and members of pro-democracy groups, were part of the #ReleaseNnamdiKanuNow movement, which attempted to pressure the Federal Government to comply with the 2022 Court of Appeal decision that discharged and acquitted Kanu.

With troops, police, and Department of State Services agents positioned at key sites like Eagle Square, the Federal Secretariat, and the Three Arms Zone, security has since been stepped up throughout the Federal Capital Territory.

Additionally, our correspondent observed numerous soldiers at the Berger roundabout with a gun truck parked nearby.
