    Police arrest pastor, his wife for defiling chorister

    Police have arrested Pastor Peter Taiwo of Christ Apostolic Bible church in Alaja Oke, Saje area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, for defiling a 16-year-old chorister of the church.

    Also arrested alongside the pastor is his wife, Elizabeth Taiwo, who connived with her husband by aiding and abetting the alleged crime.

    The pastor and his wife were arrested on Friday following a complaint reported at Adatan divisional headquarters by the victim, who told the police that while she was in the church for choir practice when the pastor’s wife called her out and directed her to go meet the pastor in his room.

    The victim claimed the pastor’s wife told her that the pastor wanted to send her on errand but when she got into the room, the pastor’s wife shut the door from outside while the pastor overpowered her.

    The pastor, she added, forcefully had sex and threatened her not to tell anyone about the incident.

    The police spokesperson in the State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement on Sunday, said the Divisional police officer for Adatan division, Salaudeen Abiodun, mobilised detectives to arrest the pastor and his wife.

    Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said that following interrogation, the couple confessed to the crime but blamed the devil for it.

    According to police spokesperson, pastor and his wife have also asked for forgiveness from the victim while the 16-year-old too had been taken to hospital for medical treatment.
