The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a local gunrunner, Shenomano Remos and seized six guns from him.

The police said in a statement obtained by our correspondent on Saturday that the suspect was arrested on Friday along Ngada-Gombi road in Gombi local government area.

The gunrunner, Remos, 23, was arrested by men of the Gombi Police Division in a joint stop and search operation with hunters.

Police spokesman, DSP Suleiman Nguroje said in the statement that the arrest was part of the command’s “reinvigorated special action plan on the ongoing fight against banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes” across Adamawa.

The suspect, being a notorious gun dealer, bought and smuggled in the weapons from Askira Uba local government area, Borno State,” Nguroje stated.

He said the suspect was on his way to distribute the weapons to his collaborators. He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Barde, had commended the performance of the DPO and men of Gombi Police Division and noted that stop and search operation is a good initiative and will critically evaluate the pattern and trend of crimes in the state.

“The state command assures Adamawa people of massive and well-planned deployment of both human and other operational assets to reinforce and consolidate on keeping Adamawa safe, especially in this festive period,” the police spokesman said.
