Miss Rahab Musa, a 23-year-old female student at Gombe State University (GSU), Sambo, has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing her newborn baby.

Rahab, a final-year student in the university’s Department of Public Administration, allegedly threw the newborn through a window just hours after giving birth inside a toilet in one of the female hostel blocks.

According to a university source who requested anonymity, the student, who was from Filiya town in Shongom Local Government Area of Gombe State, conceived the pregnancy outside of marriage and chose to kill the newborn boy by throwing him over the window after she delivered him on Saturday morning.

Immediately after she delivered the boy, she threw him out through the hostel window. The baby died instantly,” the source said.

He went on to say that the student was arrested and saved from a mob that had gathered around the dormitory, and that she was transferred to the university’s clinic, where she was examined before being turned over to police.

When contacted, the university’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Muhammad Sammani Abubakar, verified the occurrence, stating that the school administration had turned over the girl to police for further investigation.

ASP Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Gombe State, confirmed the event, saying the issue was reported to the police by the university’s Chief Security Officer.

He also stated that an inquiry has been begun to determine what exactly prompted the suspect to allegedly kill the newborn infant just hours after she gave birth.
