Residents of Special Site in the Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State have voiced their anger following the finding of aborted twins discarded in a plastic bag at a waste location.
The bodies of the male and female fetuses, estimated to be around five months old, were discovered on Wednesday behind the home of a commercial driver, Enman Danladi, provoking sorrow and outrage throughout the community.
Witnesses reported that the find was made by a farmer who saw a dog sniffing a plastic bag with flies swarming above it at the garbage site.
Describing the event, Danladi mentioned that the farmer notified him upon making the find.
“I had just returned from work when the man knocked on my door and asked me to follow him to the refuse dump behind my house,” he said.
“He told me he had been chasing away a dog that was sniffing a polyethylene bag. When he eventually opened it, he discovered the aborted twins and quickly came to inform me.”
Danladi noted that he immediately mobilised neighbours to the scene, and the remains were later buried at the site.
The event elicited strong emotional responses from locals, as men denounced the deed and called down curses on the perpetrators, while women cried unabashedly.
A local, Joshua Lamba, characterized the event as cruel and foreign to the ideals of the community.
“Where is our humanity? We condemn this atrocity because our people are not known for such acts. No one has the right to take another life, no matter the circumstance,” he said.
Another resident, Philip Jatau, similarly voiced his disbelief, calling the situation astonishing.
“It is hard to imagine that anyone could do this. One woman, who has been married for years without a child, broke down in tears,” he added.
Residents have demanded comprehensive inquiries to pinpoint those accountable and avert future incidents.
When approached on Thursday, the police department was unavailable to verify the finding.
