    President Muhammadu Buhari has departed New York and is en-route to Nigeria after participating in the 76th United Nations General Assembly.

    The President had given a speech on Friday, briefing world leaders on the current efforts made towards security, loan cancellations, COVID-19 pandemic, economic growth, climate change among many others.

    According to the President’s media aide, Femi Adesina, Buhari and his delegates are expected back in Nigeria on Sunday.

    The President arrived New York last week Sunday, after which met several world leaders, delegates and representatives of international development organisations with whom he discussed pertinent issues.

    Buhari met with Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), as well as President Evariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi and Queen of The Netherlands, Maxima Zorreguieta.

    • President Buhari addresses UN General Assembly in New York

    During his his visit, the President attended the UN Food Systems Summit and participated in a hybrid High-Level event tagged “Transformative Actions for Nature and People.”

    The major highlights of Buhari’s trip was when he addressed world leaders at the high-level General Debate of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA76) on Friday.

    He was accompanied to New York by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; and Minister of State for Environment, Sharon Ikeazor.

    Also in his delegation were the National Security Adviser, Retired Major General Babagana Monguno; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ahmed Abubakar, among others.
