The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have condemned the attack on the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, where 25 students were abducted and the vice principal was killed.

Chronicle NG reports that terrorists, wielding sophisticated weapons, invaded the school at about 4:00 a.m. on Monday and opened fire as they forced their way in.

CSP Nafiu Kotarkoshi, the state Police Public Relations Officer, revealed that the suspected bandits abducted 25 students from their dormitory and took them to an unknown location, killing the vice principal, Hassan Makuku, and injuring another, Ali Shehu, with a gunshot to the right hand.

In a press release issued Monday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, expressed great grief over the attack.

The party said, “This tragic incident further highlights the alarming rise in insecurity that has become the lived reality of the majority of Nigerians under the Tinubu-led APC administration, which has consistently preferred the politicization of governance over the protection of citizens.

“When a government fails in its primary duty of safeguarding lives and property, it must accept responsibility and deal decisively with the issues, rather than act aloof or attempt to deflect from the core issues, as this administration has repeatedly done.”

The PDP expressed its sympathies to the parents of the abducted pupils, the relatives of the dead vice principal, the staff, students, school administration, and the Kebbi State Government.

It urged the Federal Government to take immediate action to protect lives, citing recent abduction instances in Nasarawa, Plateau, Kano, and Katsina.

The largest opposition party urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritize securing lives and property, claiming that the pattern of violence contradicts the “hope” provided to Nigerians and warning that failure to act “could invite foreign meddling.”

In the same vein, the ADC, in a statement by its spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the tragedy is a “painful reminder of the worsening insecurity across our country.”

The party expressed sadness over the loss of the vice principal and expressed concern for the injured and the kidnapped.

“What happened in Kebbi is not an isolated event. It is part of a consistent pattern that shows a government that has lost control of the security architecture of the country.

“Schoolchildren, farmers, commuters, and entire communities have become soft targets for criminals who operate freely without fear of consequence.

“A government that cannot secure its schools cannot claim any credibility in its promise to protect the Nigerian people,” the ADC said.

It went on to say that it “condemns this attack in the strongest terms and calls on President Tinubu and the security agencies to respond with urgency, clarity, and competence.

“The abducted girls must be found and rescued immediately. The government must make this a matter of utmost national security priority.”

The party recalled the abduction of the Chibok girls in 2014, saying that history must not be repeated.

Abdullahi went on to say that the ADC is “firmly with the people of Kebbi State and all families affected by this horrific incident” and that it will continue to closely watch the situation.
