A father in Pakistan reportedly killed his teenage daughter after she uploaded what he considered to be inappropriate videos on the social media app TikTok, police said on Thursday.

According to local police head Babar Baloch, the man, who is believed to be in his 50s, recently returned from the United States with his family to reside in Quetta, a city in southwestern region of the country.

According to Baloch, the now-detained father admitted to shooting his daughter earlier this week when she refused to wear more modest clothing and to cease posting what the family deemed to be “indecent” videos on TikTok.

The event is being investigated by police as an instance of “honour killing.”

According to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, around 1,000 women are murdered in Pakistan under the guise of preserving family honour by fathers, brothers, and sons.

According to rights organisation Amnesty International, the majority of the time, the killers get away with it because of a contentious Islamic provision in the legislation that permits the victim’s family to forgive the murderer.

The HRCP claims that despite Pakistan’s 2016 approval of a law that partially eliminated the contentious language, the practice has persisted.
