An Oyo State High Court on Monday granted bail to an ex-queen of the Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola.

The bail also applied to an Ibadan-based media personality, Oriyomi Hamzat, and the principal of Islamic High School, Abdulahi Fasasi, who were detained in connection to the Christmas funfair stampede in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Presiding over Court 8, Justice K.B. Olawoyin gave the ruling following a bail application filed by the counsel for the trio.

The judge gave five conditions for the bail, including N10 million and two sureties who must submit landed documents within the court’s jurisdiction.

Chronicle NG reports that the Oyo State Government has filed eight counts of criminal charges bordering on murder and manslaughter against Silekunola, Hamzat, the owner of an Ibadan-based radio station, and Abdulahi Fasasi, the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, over the tragic December 18, 2024, funfair stampede that claimed the lives of 35 children.

The defendants face an eight-count charge, including “conspiracy to commit a felony to wit: murder, manslaughter, conspiracy to commit an offence to wit: criminal negligence, and criminal negligence.”

These charges, according to the government, are contrary to and punishable under Section 324 of the Criminal Code, CAP 38, Vol II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
