Hon Adewale Egbedun, the speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, and twenty-four other members have left the Peoples Democratic Party to join the Accord Party.
In Osogbo, the state capital, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker Olamide Tiamiyu signed a statement announcing the defections on Friday.
Governor Ademola Adeleke was the party’s candidate for governor in the August 15 election after having earlier defected from the PDP to Accord in December 2025.
According to Tiamiyu, the lawmakers decided during a parliamentary meeting before going to the banquet hall to meet with the governor and important Accord leaders. The speaker then made the official announcement.
“They reaffirmed their unwavering support for Governor Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke and commitment to quality representation, transparency, and responsive leadership.
“The defecting members also urged their supporters to remain steadfast and join them as they embark on this new political chapter.
“Their decision to join the governor’s party is aimed at ensuring continuity in governance and accelerating development for the people of Osun State,” Tiamiyu said.
After consulting with supporters, political allies, and important stakeholders, he noted, the lawmakers who had resigned from the PDP weeks earlier came to the conclusion that Accord offers a more stable, inclusive, and people-centered platform to serve the people of Osun.
Only one opposition legislator, Femi Popoola of the All Progressives Congress, remains in the 26-member Osun Assembly after 25 PDP lawmakers defected.
