Former Nigerian Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has lauded African healthcare innovation during a high-profile visit to the Timbuktoo Healthcare Hub and the secretariat for the timbuktoo Africa Innovation Fund in Kigali, Rwanda.

Osinbajo, who attended a Council Meeting with founding members and Executive Secretary Ms Natalie Jabangwe, took time to tour the cutting-edge facility and meet with the brains behind two standout startups revolutionising healthcare across Africa.

Among the innovators was Claude Irankunda of Rwanda, founder of Innovahyper Technologies. His company is breaking new ground with the Baho nursebot — a device that combines multiple medical instruments into one smart, compact unit for real-time vital sign monitoring. The aim? To ease the workload on nurses in remote areas and deliver accessible, low-cost healthcare.

Also in focus was Bishop Wolah of Liberia, founder of My SafePad. His startup addresses menstrual health with sustainable feminine hygiene products, while also delivering essential education on menstrual hygiene, STIs, contraceptives, and reproductive health services in schools and communities.

Osinbajo praised the entrepreneurs’ efforts, stating, “Innovations like these are transforming healthcare for the underserved and reimagining access across the continent.”

    • Osinbajo champions stronger Africa-OECD ties in high-level meeting

The visit underscores timbuktoo’s role as a springboard for African-led solutions in health, and highlights Osinbajo’s continued advocacy for scalable, impact-driven innovation.
