Victor Osimhen scored the game-winning goal for Galatasaray in their 3-2 victory over Samsunspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Friday night.
Osimhen, who had missed a few games owing to an injury sustained in Nigeria’s continental final playoff encounter against DR Congo, began the huge showdown with Fenerbahce, which ended in a tie last week.
Although he did not score in that game, he was the hero as Galatasaray won again on Friday night at Rams Park in Istanbul.
When Leroy Sane gave Galatasaray the lead early on, it was clear that they were ready to win again. Just a minute before halftime, Sané threaded a wonderful through ball into the path of Osimhen, who finished for the home team’s second goal of the match. At halftime, the Turkish champions held a commanding lead.
Following the restart, Anthony Musaba cut the lead in half in the 56th minute, giving the visitors hope.
Samsunspor drew level with just two minutes remaining as Emre Kilinic’s shot was deflected beyond Gala’s goalie.
But that wasn’t the end of the game; Osimhen scored the goal in the second minute of extra time, finishing off another strong performance for the victors.
The 26-year-old striker’s overhead kick soared past Okan Kocuk, completing his brace in the five-goal thriller. Despite a late charge by the visitors, Galatasaray claimed another victory.
The two goals brought Osimhen’s season total to 11 goals from 14 outings. Osimhen and Galatasaray will now go to Monaco in the UEFA Champions League, where he might score another double to bring his total to 50 for the Turkish club.
