Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen has confirmed he will not be joining Chelsea during the January transfer window, stating his commitment to remain with Turkish giants Galatasaray until the end of his loan spell.

The 25-year-old striker, who was extensively linked with a move to Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window, made his intentions clear after scoring his fourth goal for Galatasaray in a 2-1 win over Besiktas in Monday’s Turkish Super Lig Istanbul Derby.

“Yes, I am here,” Osimhen said when questioned about his plans for the second half of the season, as reported by Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.

The Nigerian striker has been in brilliant form since joining the Turkish Super Lig leaders on loan from Napoli in September, scoring in three straight league games, including a magnificent overhead kick against Antalyaspor last weekend after returning from injury.

His most recent goal came in the 67th minute against Besiktas, when he brilliantly headed home Gabriel Sara’s cross to extend Galatasaray’s advantage before the visitors pulled one back in stoppage time.

Despite Chelsea’s persistent interest in acquiring his services and Nicolas Jackson’s improved form, the Blues are still looking for a striker capable of scoring at least 20 goals every season, with Osimhen regarded as the best prospect to fill that role.

The former Lille forward’s achievements in Turkey have piqued the interest of Chelsea legends John Mikel Obi and Didier Drogba, who both see him as an excellent addition to their former club.

Galatasaray has benefitted greatly from Osimhen’s arrival, with the striker scoring four goals and assisting four times in only six outings.

The squad now leads the Turkish Super Lig standings with 28 points from 10 matches, following an amazing run of eight victories and two draws in their last ten games across all competitions.

The victory over Besiktas has helped Galatasaray establish a six-point lead over second-placed Samsunspor, while the defeated stay fourth with 20 points.

With Osimhen confirming his commitment to Galatasaray until the summer, Chelsea may have to wait until 2025 to sign the former Lille midfielder, who is building his reputation in Turkish football.
