Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the former Minister of Science and Technology in the cabinet of ex-president Muhammadu Buhari, has died.

Onu, a former governor of Abia State, died of a brief illness in an unidentified hospital in Nigeria.

It will be recalled that the late 72-year-old former minister ran for the All Progressive Congress’ (APC) presidential primaries in the 2023 election but lost to President Bola Tinubu.

Until his demise, he was a Nigerian politician, author, and engineer.

He was Abia State‘s first civilian governor and served as Nigeria’s minister of science, technology, and innovation from November 2015 until his resignation in 2022.
