Nigerian musicians, Stanley Omah Didia popularly known as Omah Lay, and Temilade Openiyi aka Tems have been released after three days in custody in Uganda over violation of the country’s COVID-19 laws.

Ugandan journalist, Canary Mugume took to his Twitter handle to announce the release.

“Nigerian artists @Omah_Lay and @temsbaby have been released 5 minutes ago and might fly out tonight, @Lukowoyesigyire has confirmed. #NBSUpdates @nbstv,” he said in a tweet.

The duo were arrested on Monday, charged to Magistrates’ Court and remanded in custody for allegedly committing an act capable of spreading COVID-19.

Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) had earlier assured Nigerians that the artistes will be released soon after it negotiated their release.

Dabiri-Erewa gave the assurance while receiving members of Omah Lay’s record label, Valentine Ngaji and Marshall Onaemo of Keyqaad Record who came to plead for intervention for the arrested Artistes at NiDCOM Office in Abuja on Tuesday.

She said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian mission in Uganda along with their Ugandan counterparts had achieved a diplomatic resolution of the matter. She said they will first be handed over to officials of the Nigerian mission in Uganda.
