The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has come out swinging against what it calls a baseless and malicious allegation made by Mr Paul Ibe, spokesperson to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
During a Thursday appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Ibe alleged that EFCC Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede and the Solicitor General of the Federation secretly met with a serving governor just 48 hours before the governor defected to the ruling All People’s Congress (APC).
The anti-graft agency wasted no time in debunking the claim, labelling it “patently fabricated” and “in bad taste.”
In a strongly-worded statement, the Commission reiterated its firm apolitical stance, stressing that Olukoyede, who has spoken consistently on remaining neutral, would not compromise the integrity of his office.
“There is no such meeting. It exists only in the imagination of Mr Ibe,” the EFCC said.
As political tensions rise and defection rumours swirl, the Commission is urging the public to remain discerning and avoid falling for politically motivated falsehoods.
This is the latest chapter in a broader political drama, but the commission insists its work remains unswayed by party allegiances.
