Dr. Olalekan Balogun, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has promised his cooperation to the EFCC in combating the threat of illicit mining in Ibadan and Oyo State in general.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, made the announcement on Tuesday in Abuja.

Oba Balogun made the commitment, according to Uwujaren, when the Acting Zonal Commander of the EFCC’s Ibadan Command, ACE I Halima Rufa’u, paid him a visit on Tuesday.

He praised the acting zonal commander for visiting his palace at a time when the war against illicit mining in Ibadan was intensifying.

Olubadan was also pleased that the EFCC was a prominent player in this dispute.

“It is clear, and we are aware of it, that the commission has been addressing the threat of illegal mining activities head on.”

“I can assure you of my full support, as well as the support of all the traditional chiefs in Ibadan, in ensuring that the illegal activities cease,” Olubadan said.

He also praised the acting zonal commander for hastening positive action in land and property fraud cases.

He did, however, emphasise the need for the commission to do more to combat the threat of cybercrime and other associated fraudulent activities among youth.

The acting zonal commander thanked Oba Balogun for welcoming her and assured the supreme monarch that the Ibadan Zonal Command will do more to combat cybercrime in the state.

Rufa’u stated that the commission will continue to pursue illegal mineral operators whose actions have hampered the growth of the state and, indeed, the country via nonpayment of royalties, taxes, and other dues.
