Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged all stakeholders to remain calm and law-abiding following the death of Okuama community leaders.

Oborevwori stated this in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Festus Ahon, on Tuesday in Asaba, the state capital.

The statement read, “It is a reassuring development that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the death of the eminent Okuama leader, Pa James Oghorokor, while in military custody.

“Recall that last week, the governor at the 93rd Urhobo National Day Celebration condoled with the people of Okuama of Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom in the Ughelli South Local Government Area when news broke of the death of Pa James Oghorokor.

“As a government, we are saddened by this unfortunate death, and we extend our profound condolences to the family of the deceased and the entire Okuama community on the unfortunate development.

“We are in touch with the Army authorities and will strive to ensure that an autopsy is conducted to unravel the cause of the death.

“We are also hopeful that the autopsy report will be made public. In the meantime, we urge all stakeholders to remain calm and law-abiding.

Meanwhile, a family member of Pa Dennis Okugbaye, the second head of the Okuama community in Delta State, claimed they dispatched a delegation to Port Harcourt to confirm whether their father is still alive, as reported on Tuesday.

Pa Okugbaye, 81, reportedly died while being transported to Asaba by military personnel on December 10, 2024.

“We just heard the rumours that our father is alive; we don’t know yet, and we cannot confirm it. We have travelled to Port Harcourt this evening and have not heard from them.

“When we get confirmation, we will let you know,” a family source stated.
