The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, said it has launched a manhunt for attackers who stormed a rented male hostel belonging to students of Bilyaminu Usman Polytechnic, Hadejia, located along the Hadejia to Malam-Madori road.
It should be noted that on Thursday, a rented off-campus male hostel, located not far from BUPoly and housing students from the institution, was attacked by suspected assailants using dangerous local knives.
The assailants, who were apparently equipped with sharp local knives, attacked the students, stealing their phones and other valuables, leaving many people terrified in the neighborhood.
In an interview on Sunday, ASC Badaruddeen Tijjani, spokesperson for the Jigawa NSCDC Command, said that the agency has already initiated a manhunt for the attackers.
“We are actively pursuing leads and conducting investigations following the incident at the polytechnic students’ hostel,” ASC Tijjani said.
He further stated that the attackers are suspected to be local criminals who took advantage of the late hour to carry out the attack.
Speaking on if any arrests had been made thus far, ASC Tijjani replied, “Not yet, but we’re still gathering valuable intelligence from the community.”
He emphasized the importance of community collaboration in tracking down the suspects. “The information we are receiving from residents is very helpful to our efforts,” he noted.
“The NSCDC has intensified patrols and security checks around the institution to prevent further incidents,” he noted.
Furthermore, the representative asked BUPoly students and people in the neighborhood to remain cautious and report any suspicious activities to security agents right away.
ASC Tijjani also appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the attackers’ arrest.
However, the Jigawa NSCDC spokesperson stressed that justice will be served and that student safety remains a primary priority.
“Efforts are ongoing to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book swiftly and to restore peace of mind to the affected students and community,” he confirmed.
