Northerners supported Buhari’s eight-year misrule – Reno Omokri

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as insensitive and unacceptable the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for its criticism of President Bola Tinubu regarding the state burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, has berated the North for overwhelmingly supporting former president Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year “misrule”.

Omokri, in a statement posted on his verified X page on Wednesday, noted that the North was vociferous in their support for the then Buhari-led administration despite the killings, banditry, kidnappings, and corruption that characterized his tenure.

The former presidential aide noted that, at the time, an attack on Buhari‘s administration was perceived as an attack on the entire people of “Arewa.”.

Omokri’s statement reads, “For eight years of General Buhari’s misrule, too many of our Northern brothers defended him rather aggressively and would not tolerate any criticism of the then President.

“To attack him was often perceived as attacking Arewa.”

Commenting on Omokri’s statement, a man, simply identified on X as Last Dee, alleged that “Bubari has done so much damage that only God can forgive him.”

In his reaction, Mgberi Johnbosco noted that tribalism is a bane to politics in Nigeria.

He noted that Nigeria cannot make meaningful progress when the country is divided along ethnic lines.

“When will all these tribal comparisons end?” he asked. “This is our biggest problem. We can’t achieve anything by being divided,” he added.

Buhari came into power after unseatting an incumbent president, Goodluck Jonathan, in the March 2015 presidential election.

However, with the reported high level of insecurity, kidnapping, corruption, and tribalism that characterized his administration, Chief Edwin Clark, Leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), noted that “history will record Buhari as the worst president of Nigeria.”
