The Federal Government has approved a new service by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to make it easier and safer to verify people’s identities using their National Identification Number (NIN).

Kayode Adegoke, NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, announced this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos.

Adegoke stated that the presidency has also directed all ministries, departments, and agencies to use the new NIN authentication service for identity verification.

He explained that this step supports the NIMC’s obligation to create a dependable digital ID system for Nigerians and lawful residents.

The new service, NIN Authentication, is available via the web, mobile apps, and API. It protects people’s data, ensures privacy, and makes it easier to use government services.

“This supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to improve how identities are managed in the country,” he said.

The NINAuth program is the official tool for connecting to the NIMC database.

It provides an extra degree of security and gives users more control over their personal information.

It also requires consumers to provide consent before their information is utilised for services such as Know Your Customer or other checks.

Adegoke stated that the platform promotes trust and allows users to control how their information is shared.

NINAuth allows consumers to securely authenticate their identities and access services such as SIM registration, SIM replacement, passport applications, tax filings, and financial transactions.

It will also be utilised for government assistance programmes, driver’s licence renewals, and other official purposes.

He noted that the service provides various advantages, including improved security, protection against unauthorised access to personal data, and the ability for users to manage their data-sharing options.

NINAuth also provides convenient and secure access to a variety of services via a single sign-on feature.

Adegoke stated that the launch of NINAuth demonstrates NIMC’s ongoing endeavour to strengthen identity verification in Nigeria.

The platform is designed to be secure, adaptable, and interoperable with other systems via API interaction.

It enables real-time verification of NIN records, hence improving service delivery and ensuring compliance with national identity standards.

He stated that NINAuth is now the official platform for all identity checks that use the NIN.

More information, including instructions for using “the new service, can be found at: https://ninauth.nimc.gov.ng“.
