Popular Nigerian gospel singer and song writer Chidinma Ekile has advised people to put a limit on how they render financial help.

Making allusion to Davido‘s “We rise by lifting others” maxim, the “I recommend Jesus” crooner noted in a post on her verified Instagram handle that one can actually fall while trying to lift others.

She wrote, “You can actually fall by lifting others; put a limit on how you help people. Don’t do too much, and never allow them to trip you or manipulate you into getting money off of you.”

The post, which has since gone viral, has generated mixed reactions among netizens.

Reacting to the post, a netizen simply identified as @Napupu2wit stated that “it’s only in Africa that people believe that you have to give before you can be blessed. But that’s what your pastors are using to milk you. Giving is biblical, but there is giving that is foolish and can take you to poverty.”

Supporting Chidinma’s comment, @Emiroluwaseyi01 advised people not to render help when they are not financially capable of doing so when he said, “Yes, she is right. Don’t lap others when you don’t sit right.”
Speaking in pidgin, Bekee said, “She (Chidinma) did not lie. A giver should know when to stop because takers have no limit.”
Chinecherem noted that “she’s absolutely correct; don’t lift others when you’re not standing strong.”
Narrating the ordeals of people living outside the shores of Nigeria, Sam Ed stated that “lifting others is not for the fainthearted, especially if you’re living abroad.”Every day you’ll be hearing stories that touch, and it always requires money.”
For Ofo Nd, he stated that people should be careful while helping people, noting how “evil people” can be. He said, “Something’s been happening, especially now that evil people are too many.”

Speaking from a personal experience, a tweet simply identified as Idle narated the ordeals of his father, whom he said “fell because he’s too kind and helpful to everyone. Always helping, always want to be in their good books, but, Alhamdulillah, getting things back to normal.”
While for Frank Okhai, he said Chidinma’s arguments hold true because they are “absolutely true.” “I’m a victim who’s yet to recover and stand again. Na God, get power,” he added.
On the other hand, Jayk, making allusions to the Holy Bible, stated, “Give, and it shall be given unto you.”

Buttressing Jayk’s argument, Shalomoke noted that “you can never fall when you help others; even the Bible advises us to give and help others.”
While Twitter user Barca 247 reminded Chidinma of her humble beginnings, he noted that the MTN Project Fame winner will not leave the world with worldly possessions in the event of death. He said, “Oh, just as MTN fell by lifting her, she shouldn’t forget she’s not leaving this world with any of her belongings, so humanity is the best investment.”
