The 41-year old Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator who was purchasing sex toys at an adult shop in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital got into an altercation with one of the sales women and immediately pounced on her.

In a video obtained by Premium Times, he dealt her slap after slap then ordered his police detail to arrest her even when she did not put up a defence.

But when Kemi, the other sales woman at the store tried to placate him, her efforts only appeared to inflate his ego.

His actions have since drawn massive outrage on social media with many Nigerians calling for him to be prosecuted while others demanded that he steps down as a senator.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria and International Arbitrator, Festus Keyamo said the police must immediately act on the issue.

“The case of Senator Elisha Abbo is very straightforward: the Police must immediately take three steps. First, arrest him (no formal complaint is needed with the evidence on tape).

Secondly, obtain his statement (if he’s willing to make one) and that of the victim and thirdly, arraign him in court,” he tweeted.

Amnesty International Nigeria also called for immediate investigation. “Senator Elisha Abbo, in company of three women, in an adult shop in Abuja assaulted women wildly in the presence of police. This must be investigated. Victims of his violence must get justice.”

Japheth Omojuwa described the senator has a Barbarian. “I just watched the video of Senator Elisha Abbo beating up a shop attendant. That Senator has the capacity for murder. He is a threat to humanity. His fellow senators must condemn that barbarian act, the ones that aren’t Barbarians themselves. He should be made to pay for that,” he wrote.

Yusuf Dingyadi described the indecent behaviour of Elisha Abbo as a national disgrace. “National Disgrace. Disgusting video of how Senator Elisha Abbo from Adamawa slapped and detained an innocent woman in her shop,” he tweeted.

Musician Bankole Wellington says Nigerians must be weary of persons elected to represent them. “I’ve been saying we need to pay attention to who we let into the National Assembly. Now look: a sitting senator caught on camera assaulting a woman. These are our “leaders”.. our “lawmakers”. Shame on us. Elisha Abbo should face the full wrath of the law.”

Honourable Ben Igbakpa, a member of the 9th assembly condemned the actions of Abbo.

“As a member of National Assembly and PDP, I’m ashamed of Sen. Elisha Abbo for the dishonour he has brought upon Nigerians he swore to protect, his colleagues and party. I am even more horrified by his security aides who supervised the assault. The young lady must get justice,” he wrote.

This is the face of the senatorial beast by the name of Elisha Abbo who physically assaulted a nursing mother for merely pleading with him to “take it easy.” This medieval idiot has no place in d Nigerian senate. The senate must suspend him, and his constituents should recall him pic.twitter.com/tDnEW1VF0R
